The Vision

Inspired by natural history books and otherworldly point-and-click puzzle games from the 1990s, I began creating Tringbowland in 2002. I wanted to make my own exploration-based adventure game, and Tringbowland was meant to be the setting.

The art and science of my world creation began with a question. One night, in our small apartment, I asked my father, "How can I make my world real?" My father gave me art supplies, and I began drawing pictures of what I imagined. Though I knew I could not create the physical reality of a world, I realized that I could still make Tringbowland feel real to me by making it detailed and scientifically realistic.

My First Tringbow Drawing

Tringbow

This is the first picture I drew of the tringbow creature. It was inspired by owls, pterosaurs, and dolphins. The drawing was scanned on July 19, 2002. I was 8 years old at the time.

I knew that in order to create my adventure game, I would need certain knowledge, skills, and tools. I learned how to make my own music, sew my own costumes, and design places that would be interesting to explore.

I eventually realized that creating worlds had become more that just a hobby. To me, creating worlds is a spiritual practice that brings me closer to the beauty of physical reality. In college, I developed my knowledge and appreciation of physical reality by studying Geosciences. I also learned how to use computer animation to bring my worlds to life.
